Owner and psychotherapist Dr. Julie Premo, PhD, is a fully licensed clinical psychologist in Michigan.

Dr. Premo (call her Julie) has been a lifelong learner; you can expect she is reading 3 to 5 books at any given time. Those dearest to her appreciate her unique sense of humor and endless curiosity about the human condition. She adores all creatures great and small, and currently cohabitates with a highly demanding calico cat who is freeloading due to her lack of opposable thumbs.
Julie enjoys cooking Mediterranean and Asian cuisine, and visiting all the amazing local restaurants in her area. She is Midwest native with strong opinions about cheese and ranch dressing. Julie enjoys a healthy bit of television and movies, and dabbles in computer, video, and board games. She aspires to be a competent gardener, but the current condition of her basil plant has her questioning if this is a meaningful endeavor.
Julie is not a "blank canvas" therapist and couldn't be if she tried. She is passionate about human rights and self-expression, and finds joy in others learning and embracing who they authentically are.
Dr. Premo formed her private practice to specialize in helping individuals recover psychologically from unhealthy relationships. She is a certified narcissistic abuse treatment clinician with extensive experience in anxiety, is trauma and grief informed, and draws upon models of adult attachment to help her clients process and grow from their experiences.
She received her Bachelor's of Science in Psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She then attended Miami University of Ohio, earning her MA and PhD in an APA accredited program in Clinical Psychology. Dr. Premo gained valuable experience in psychotherapy, research, and teaching. Her extensive studies in infant attachment, temperament, and parenting behavior inspired her to learn more about social and cultural context as risks for future conditions like anxiety and depression. Her foundation in evidence-based treatment allowed her to thrive in the wide range range of clinical settings.
She completed a clinical internship at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire, with special focus on the identification and treatment of traumatic stress, and postdoctoral training in the outpatient psychiatry department at Michigan Medicine in Ann Arbor, focused on the treatment of anxiety and OCD using exposure therapy.
Dr. Premo is a primarily a private pay clinician, with sessions priced her $200 per 55 minutes. This rate is determined by many, many factors including but not limited to cost of education and training, years of experience, insurance reimbursement for out of network (OON) clients, and business overhead. Many clients view their sessions with Dr. Premo as an investment in a specialist who can address specific issues that other clinicians are often not trained in or experienced with. They often enjoy the privacy that private pay therapy provides. A clinical diagnosis is not needed to qualify for treatment with private pay.
In order to be the best therapist and a true specialist to her clients, a substantial amount of continuing education, training, consultation, and supervision outside of client session time is needed. She would much rather be learning how to be the best possible therapist than be stuck on the phone with customer service.
That said, Dr. Premo understands the range of factors and circumstances that limit access to services. She offers sliding scale options for private pay clients, and offers clients with out-of-network insurance benefits a superbill.
